SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN IS NOW REAPING DIVIDENDS
Rain or shine had a good first quarter, getting good plays, controlling the rebounds and most importantly getting defensive stops on Chris McCullough in the out of town game in Cagayan de Oro, until Terrence Romeo entered the late first quarter and bombing 3 pointers one after another. San Miguel wins the game 89-87. This is what makes San Miguel extremely difficult to beat in this season. In this game, they decided to start Fajardo, McCullough, Lassiter, Ross, and Cabagnot, coming off the bench are Santos, Romeo, Standhardinger (did not play due to flu) Pessumal, Ganuelas-Rosser, Zamar, Nabong the newest PBA bad boy.
Cabagnot was not clicking early in the game, San Miguel has a simple solution, Cabagnot out Romeo in. The strategy is just to have a simple trial and error until you get it right. It is like this, Fajardo out, Stanhardinger in. Ross out, Pessumal in. Santos out Ganuelas-Rosser in. What makes this very ridiculous is that San Miguel is doing it by lopsided trades, the best example is JR Reyes for Stanhardiger. Back in the year 2009, Arwind Santos traded for Ken Bono and the year 2012 Rey Guevarra for Marcio Lassiter, they even stole Jun Mar Fajardo in the draft year 2012.
It was not an overnight success, Petron Blaze (now SMB) has its own "Petronovelas" back then, for sometimes it's hard to gel a team that has full of talents and it ends up backfiring to them in numerous games. Now they are reaping the dividends of the "Petronovelas". San Miguel has only two strategies, keep the best productive players in the team and trade our bench players for better players. SMC owns Ginebra and Magnolia and it looks like Ginebra and Magnolia are now copying the recipe.
San Miguel's next game will be on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, against the struggling Meralco Bolts.
