How to become a PBA player if you are only 6'0 feet and below
1. Develop your passing, playmaking, and Dribbling skill
You might think that the best way to become a PBA player is to score, score and score - this might look good on your stats but if that is your only talent, the PBA teams will always be skeptical about it if you can sustain it on the professional level.
If you have a great court awareness, precision passing skill or a good playmaker - you will improve your chances to make it in the big league.
Unlike the shooting skills, becoming a good playmaker can be a little tricky because you cannot practice this alone. Either you are in grade school, high school or a college player, push your self to record a minimum of 10 assists per game on practice and actual games because this is the only way to develop your playmaking skill.
2. Rebound!
Rebounding may not be the specialty for most guards but contributing at least a minimum of 5 to 10 rebounds per game consistently will improve your chances of getting drafted in the PBA.
This will make a statement that your height will not be a disadvantage over the bigger guards.
By using your speed, quickness, timing, aggressiveness, and determination you can crash the boards over the bigger guys.
Topex Robinson is listed at 5'7 - He will get defensive and offensive rebounds from out of nowhere using his quickness over the bigger guys and giving his team extra possessions most importantly on the winning time.
3. Get More Faster and Stronger
Building a strong body frame is now necessary for the professional level. There was an old myth before that lifting weights will stunt the growth of the teenagers - this is not true.
Building a strong physique is a huge advantage compared to the players that do not work out. Proper weightlifting and cross-training exercises are the secret recipes of the super athletes.
Improving the overall body strength, quickness, vertical leap, and athleticism is the key to success.
4. Lockdown Defender
If you lack the height in basketball, the tendency of the opposing team is to hunt you down while your playing defense.
Like the 3rd advise - getting stronger and faster is now necessary.
Prove to your team that you can make at least 2 (two) or more steals per game on a consistent basis and show them that you are strong enough to handle the offensive player on single coverage.
5. Do not hesitate to take the open shots
To have that "shooting confidence" you must know deep in you that you are a deadly shooter.
The main advantage of a pass-first point guard is that sometimes the defender will always think that you will pass the ball - you can seize that short moment to create a quality shot for yourself.
Practice your 3-point shooting - shooters are made and not born. Many players in the league started out as "bad shooters" but they develop it along the way like Jason Castro and Chris Ross.
Develop your 3-point shooting as early as now. Shoot at least a hundred 3-point shots every day, in that way you can build your shooting confidence.
And finally, remember this quote from Allen Iverson
"If you're struggling with your shooting, then do other things on the basketball court. Get steals, get assists, get rebounds-do anything on the court to help the team win"
